How do I set up Overnight/Night Shift/ Third Shift Employees? Follow
If you have overnight, night shift, or third shift employees, you may need to set up specific policies to ensure accurate timecard calculations and reporting. Fortunately, your CloudPunch account is already set up to handle these types of employees.
Ensure Proper Timecard Calculation
By default, all hours worked for the shift will be set to the day of the first punch of the shift. This means that if an employee works from 11:00 PM Monday to 7:00 AM Tuesday, their timecard will show that they worked from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM on Monday. This ensures that the hours are accurately calculated for payroll and reporting purposes. However, if you need to adjust the Day Change Time so that their hours reflect on the day of the out punch, you will want to set up a Punch Management Policy with the Day Changes At option to a time before the earliest in punch for your overnight, night shift, or third shift users. In the example above, setting the Day Changes At option to 11:00 PM on the Punch Management Policy will move the punches to Tuesday on the time card. You can find more details about this in our Punch Management Policies articles.
Review and Adjust Policies as Needed
Depending on your specific needs and policies, you may need to adjust other settings or policies to ensure accurate reporting and payroll calculations for your overnight employees. For example, you may need to adjust your overtime policies or set up specific accrual rules for these employees. You can find more information about overtime in our Overtime Policies articles or accruals in our Accrual Policies articles.
